What Is A Ponyo
Ponyo, the new Hayao Miyazaki film, is as per usual gorgeous. The story is about a “goldfish” who falls in love with ham…and a little boy, and then uses magic glowing potion to will herself to become human. Adventure and magic ensues (and a super cute theme song).
Where Is Houston
Alaska (highway 3 to be exact) apparently. It’s not so much as a city, but more of a tiny dot on the road. One highly advertised fireworks stand and a gas station.

What Do You See

1. My company is so cheap they don’t even offer vision insurance.
2. My company is so cheap that they offer 10% off at the optical department in the store.
2. I’ve gone over 4 years since my last eye exam.
3. I dropped like $500 on glasses and contacts.
4. I got some free (I’m sure that was included in the price) trial contacts that I got to wear home.
Also when did an eye exam include a reflex test, like they shot a puff of air in my eye and measured how long it took to blink?
Where Is Pedro

The Chicago Reader has a good article about Pedro the Lion David Bazan and his new album.
How To Drive To Anchorage
So I did some fill-in work in Anchorage. My boss said to drive there, normally I would’ve complained and asked for a plane ticket and rental car, but since I’ve never driven there and everyone is like you haaaave to do the drive, it is so pretty. So I drove, the whole 379 miles to and from. It was almost all 2 lane highway, which I don’t enjoy.

I always get nervous passing on the left. And I only pass one car at a time. So a few times I got stuck behind 2 super-slow trucks. But I still made it in 6 hours.
Even though the speed limit was technically 65 mph, I was under the assumption that we were under a natural law of drive safely. When your out in the middle of no where, with no cops around, shouldn’t you be able to drive however fast you feel comfortable going safely?

But the view was spectacular. Por ejamplo….

There were little photo ops on the side of the road where you could pull over.

I had to stop myself from stopping at each one I saw. But the handy thing about them is that they give you a good spot to pee if you can’t wait for another 3 hours until the next gas station.

What I Ate In Anchorage
The first place I went to was Pho Lena. And since work is paying for all my meals, I decided to try out some fresh spring rolls.

They weren’t exactly fresh, you could tell because of the rice paper skin was a bit hard. But the sauce was tasty, not really peanuty, more vinegar based with bits of peanuts. The Pho broth was a bit too smokey for my taste and the beef was sliced too thick.

The next night I went Charlie’s Bakery for some Chow Fun. I’ve missed you chow fun. It’s pretty easy to make so it’s surprising that you can’t find a good chow fun in the Banks.

My last meal was at Pho Mailee. The broth was good, almost spot on.

And Friday night I went for the win, and ate at Tokyo Garden, seafood buffet.

When I Get Back
I’ll be in Anchorage for the rest of the week. Enjoy this until I get back….
