Where I Sit

Posted in Home by felixdemarco on March 30, 2009

March 31 005
My couch finally came in from Anchorage. And yes, the pillows came with it, I will be “storing” those for safe keeping it a very dark place, far, far away from anywhere I can see. I’m still rearranging, so please forgive the mess.

Where Have All The Muffalos Gone

Apologies for the subpar picture, but these muffulettas were far too delicioso to let sit by for a proper picture. This recipe is compliments of my Alaska Cookbook, presented to me before I left town. Note that I adjusted the recipe due to availability of ingredients, and by adjusted I mean, left out the capers because I couldn’t find any. The recipe follows……

How To Survive A Volcano

Fear not, least you think that Alaska is much smaller than it actually is, I am in no danger of Mt. Redoubt’s ashen blows. The only downfall is that since the volcano blew, flights in and out of Anchorage have been spotty so we haven’t been getting our daily drug supplies, so we’ve run out of some medicine which just means that less work for us.

What Progress On The Illustrated Bible

Posted in Arts & Crafts by felixdemarco on March 26, 2009

March 25 003
I’m finally getting started on my Illustrated Bible idea, remeber way back when I first talked to you about it. Well I took the first step today. I went to this town’s one and only Christian Book Store, owned by I’m told by a lovely old couple. The old lady there was nice enough to help me find the Bibles with the thickest paper, pretty much feeling up a page from every Bible they sell. And she never even questioned why I wanted a Bible with thick pages.

I ended up getting two Bibles. A Children’s Bible, that already has some pictures, but it had the thickest pages and I thought it fitting that I the Man-Boy that I am get a Bible designed for children (from the mouth’s of babes and all that). The other one I got, isn’t exactly a Bible, it’s more like a condensed Bible/devotional. It’s actually called The Message Bible//Remix:Solo. You can tell that it’s hip and stylish because it is a “remix” of the Bible. But it had the second thickest pages and a nice clean white cover so I figured I could use it a practice Bible.

How Is….Coraline

Coraline-75-large
It’s my day off today, so that means it’s time to see if this town really doesn’t have a 3-D theater (the RealD website says no). Turns out there is one theater that does, and it happens to be the very same one where I go to church. The sad news is that the Bar is only available to about 6 seats. If you know what the Bar is, then you know how important it is (important enough to end this sentence with a preposition). The good news is that Coraline in 3-D is awesome in three of those dimensions. Yes a bit scary, and totally not apros for small children or those with weak constitutions, but still a treat for the eyes.

Why Pork Is So Delicious

Posted in Food and Drink by felixdemarco on March 23, 2009

It’s no whole roasted pig, but this chop will do just fine. It’s pretty simple, a little salt and pepper, throw it in a pan with some oil and a few cloves of squashed garlic. Flip it over when it’s browned on one side and then wait a bit and throw some butter in to moisten the meat up whilst it continues to cook. Then your done.

If your feeling fancy you can marinate it in some vinegar and soy sauce. Or you after it’s browned on both sides layer some green beans on a baking dish, carfully place the pork chop down and then cover with a tomato slice and your favorite cheese. Then add some water to the pan you cooked the pork and then pour it into the baking dish. Bake/broil it up until the cheese melts.

I was far too lazy to do any of the extra steps so I just consumed the chop with some rice and a bowl of raw broccoli (I’m not a savage carnivore). Dinner in 15-20 minutes (depending on your rice cooker).
